In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, he recalled that he could only earn Rs 35 a month and survive only one meal a day. Despite the difficulties, he did not give up. “I used to work during the day and go to school at night. I was in Level 9 at that time,” he said.

Nana Patekar said those tough times really affected how he viewed life. “I believe your situation determines your age,” he shared, but he also mentioned that he eventually stopped letting the hardship define him. “After a while, I didn’t let my situation determine my age. Now, I decided on my own 18, 19…I’m very young,” he said with a smile.

Nana Patekar began his Bollywood journey with Gaman (1978) and was recognized by Salaam Bombay! (1988). He won the National Award and Film Awards from Parinda (1989) and received a director’s debut in Prahaar (1991). The 1990s brought him successful successes, such as Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman (1992), Angaar (1992), Tirangaa (1993), and Krantiveer (1994), who won several awards from him.
