Mint Interpreter: Why is Swiggy now offering DJs, therapists and astrologers?

While Swiggy launches multiple applications such as SNACC (fast snack app), Swigl (a learning app for delivery partners that can effectively perform their daily tasks), Instamart (fast grocery store and essentials app), scenarios (ticketing and event platform), and Swiggy Minis (a marketplace for small businesses), all of them are within these scopes, all of which are within scope.

Its latest bet Pyng marks a major shift.

Pyng will connect users to numerous professionals – therapists, DJs, photographers, fitness coaches, developers, beauticians and even astrologers. The move appears to be part of Swiggy’s diversification strategy as it hopes to leverage its logistics and consumer base to leverage the country’s growing service market.

Mint Watch the nuances behind this move and the challenges in the space.

What prompted Swiggy to invest in professional services?

The newly launched app is currently live in Bangalore. It uses artificial intelligence (AI) to recommend relevant professionals to users.

According to experts, this is a natural extension. It can improve the company’s value basket when you add a layer of high-profit services on top of your existing business. Verified service providers and reputation will be a differentiator.

Angad Singh, founding member of Zippee, said Swiggy’s Pyng bet is full-stack ownership and profit expansion: demand, meeting and current services. “It’s not only about the speed or speed you consume, but also to be a trusted platform for the daily needs of both consumption and services,” he said.

Who will it compete with?

Although Urban Company is a leader in professional services, it focuses primarily on blue-collar gig workers such as plumbers, electricians, carpenters, etc. However, urban companies have been invading the field of white-collar professional services through services such as interior design consulting. A quick look at Pyng shows that Swiggy is trying to break into the white-collar space clearly – as of now, the app is not available on the app.

While there are business-to-workforce platforms for businesses like Awign and TaskMo, people can list their services as sellers, or Liche Professional Services platforms (such as Artivo), where customers can get advice/consultations related to healthcare, but clients cannot provide a wide range of professional services on one platform.

Can it become a big revenue center?

The Bangalore-based startup launched a seller app earlier this year and has already landed more than 1,000 professionals in more than 100 specialties. Within a day announced on Tuesday, the company received more than 1,000 downloads on the Google App Store. For a clear effort, Swiggy provides a money back guarantee in case users find value in the service.

“Customers use the service primarily through reference. As far as divergence is concerned, it will be verified. So customers can try it out. In today’s fast-growing environment, the only factor that is important to customers is time, and the extension of services that extend from swiggy can help solve this problem.

In addition, experts pointed out that Pyng will have a healthy profit margin due to white-collar premiums and reduced customer acquisition costs.

What are the challenges?

As a public company with multiple high-intensity bets, Swiggy faces some key risks. According to Singh, the challenges facing the company are fragmented focus, operational pressure, increased burning and no clear path to profitability.

In its last earnings report, the company said it expects its business to profit from its combined level in the third quarter of 2025-26, tax, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) profitability. Swiggy’s consolidated net loss expanded to 2024 – 7.99 million in the third quarter of 25 5.74 million a year ago. Another fundamental challenge is to get excellent service providers on the platform and maintain standard quality of experience.

As Singh points out, whether Pyng becomes a revenue engine or expensive interference will be entirely dependent on Swiggy’s execution muscles.
