Opposition leader Naveen Patnaik of the Odisha Parliament submitted the nomination documents on Thursday (17 April 2025) at Sankha Bhawan, Bhubaneswar.
He is the only candidate for the position.
Since the party was founded in 1997, Mr. Patnaik has been elected as BJD President for eight consecutive times.
He was last elected in February 2020.
Mr. Patnaik submitted his nomination documents on the 28th anniversary of his father, Biju Patnaik, and his regional party (Biju Janata Dal) was appointed to the document.
“Now, there is no direct name to the BJP, “Now there are people who are deliberately trying to devalue the contributions and sacrifices of our great sons. Trying to change history, too. But they should remember that history reflects the connection experience of the country over a period of time.
Patnaik said after submitting the document that the BJD government from 2000 to 2024 had made significant developments in Odisha and had given national recognition at both national and international levels.
