De Bruin is surprised by Manchester City’s exit

London: Kevin de Bruyne revealed he was told his glittering Manchester City career will end at the end of the season.

De Bruyne recently announced that he will leave Etihad Stadium and land the curtains of Manchester’s memorable era as a Belgian midfielder once the current campaign is over.

The 33-year-old arrived from Wolfsburg, Germany in 2015 and played a role in the incredible success of Manchester City during the reign of the Pep Guardiola owner.

De Bruyne won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five League Cups and the 2023 Champions League – winning an incredible treble championship season.

Guardiola hinted that the organizers struggled with injuries and inconsistent forms over the past two seasons, which was his decision to end De Bruin’s stay.

Manchester City fell sharply this semester, surrendering to the championship for four years and becoming a battle focused on the Champions League qualification.

But De Bruyne admitted he was shocked to have received no new contract offer because he thought he could still shine at the highest level.

“I didn’t have any offer throughout the year, they just made the decision,” he said after a 2-0 win at Everton on Saturday.

“Obviously, I was a little surprised, but I just had to take it. Honestly, I still think I could perform at this level as I showed, but I know the club has to make a decision.

“Maybe if the team didn’t struggle and I’m back like this year and lying in bed like normal, maybe they made another decision.”

De Bruen said he didn’t make any decisions about his future as he focused on the competition to ensure that City’s game in the Champions League will be extended to the top five in his 15th straight season.

He has been linked to the moves of the Major League Soccer League, but he has not ruled out whether he is in the Premier League or joining major European clubs.

“I feel like I have a lot to pay for. Obviously I know I’m no longer 25, but I still feel like I can do my job,” he said.

“I’m open for anything. I have to look at the whole picture. I’m working on sports, family, everything, what makes the most sense to me and my family.

“I like competition. That’s what I feel, so I can’t say I want to quit because I still feel like whenever I’m in training, I want to beat these guys.

“I feel like I’m doing a great job, which is why I’ve also played a lot lately.”

De Bruin praised at Goodison Park after winning Saturday, and his performance was a highlight in another booming city show.

“It’s really rare to come out and get applause from another team, so I just want to say thank you to them. I think they appreciate the way I play.”
