“Two ice cream factory workers in Chhattisgarh were allegedly tortured by their employer and his assistants who took out their nails and slashed them when they suspected theft,” the police said on Saturday, April 19, 2025.

A police official said: “The victims Abhishek Bhambi and Vinod Bhambi were originally from the Bhilwara district of Rajasthan and were hired by contractors to work at the ice cream factory owned by Chhotu Gurjar in Chaprabhatti district, and work at the ice cream factory under the restrictions of the civil line police station.

He said: “On April 14, Gurjar and his colleague Mukesh Sharma accused two workers of theft. The duo was stripped and their nails were pulled out in view of the electric shock.”

“The video clip shows a half-naked man being electrocuted and hit,” he said. The two victims managed to escape and reach their home country in Bilwara. They filed a complaint at the Gulabra Police Department.

“Rajasthan police registered for “zero” FIR and forwarded the case to Korba police for further action,” he said. Under zero FIR, victims can file a complaint at any police station regardless of the location of the crime.

A case was subsequently registered against Gurjar and Sharma at the Civil Line Police Station in Colba on Friday (April 18, 2025).

One of the victims, Abhishek Bhambhi, said he asked the employer to pay the cost of his vehicle from the employer. When the owner refused, “Abhishek expressed his willingness to resign, which angered the defendant who beat the two workers.”

“So far, no arrests have been made and further investigations are underway,” said the station housing officer (SHO) of the Civil Line Police Department.
