Recover bullets on buses: Probes extend to Karnataka

Police have expanded to Karnataka to investigate the discovery of 150 rounds of rural-made firearms on a bus running on the Kannur-Virajpet route on Thursday night.

During routine vehicle inspections at Kootupuzha excise duty checkpoint on Kerala-Karnataka border, the bullet was found to have been abandoned and there was no confirmed owner. Iritty police sought assistance from the dog team, which identified some passengers.

After preliminary verification, while other passengers were allowed to leave after the address and phone number were given, two suspects, Ulikkal native and a Virajpet resident.

After discovery, police attempted to review CCTV footage from Virajpet bus standpoint and did not produce any results. A follow-up investigation was conducted on Friday at Virajpet. The bus’s internal surveillance system also doesn’t help, as its cameras only operate on March 13.
