Starting May 1, without a satellite-based charging system, Fastags will continue: Morth

“Some parts of the media reported that the satellite-based telephone system will be launched on May 1, 2025 and will replace the existing FASTAG-based tolling system. This is to clarify that the Ministry of Road Transport and Road Transport or the National Highway Administration (NHAI) (NHAI) has not yet made such a decision nationwide in the satellite-based Tolling tolling of India India nhai (NHAI).
In a press release, the Ministry announced that in order to make vehicles seamless, accessible movement through the toll plazas and reduce travel time, a “Adaptive Power-Unable System of ANPR-Fastag” will be implemented in a selected toll plazas.
The advanced charging system will incorporate the “Automatic Digital Board Identification” (ANPR) technology, which will identify vehicles by reading its digital boards and use the existing “FastAg system” that uses radio frequency identification (RFID) for toll deductions.
Under this, the vehicle will be charged through the identity of the high-performance ANPR camera and Fastag readers without having to stay in the toll plaza. If not complying, electronic notice will be provided to violators, which may result in a suspension of Fastag and other Vahan-related fines.
NHAI invited bids for the “ANPR-Fastag-based Accessible System” to be installed on selected paid plazas. According to the release, decisions will be made on the implementation of the nation based on the performance, efficiency and user response to the system.
