Seriously noting the lack of basic identity documents among members of the nomadic community, the Karnataka planned caste and the planned tribe nomadic development development company Pallavi G. has announced a special drive to allow them to access documents such as Aadhaar, vote identification and configuration cards.
“The situation of nomadic communities in the state is of deep concern,” she said. “When I visited various settlements, I observed many people lacking basic facilities. Worse, on Tuesday, she told Presspersons in Kalaburagi that she had previously reviewed the development plans for nomadic communities in the area.
“The lack of these important documents and basic documents prevented them from accessing government welfare programs. To address this, we will start a special drive where officials will visit these settlements and facilitate the issuance of identity documents on the spot,” she said.
When asked about the population size of the SC and St Nomadic communities according to the Socio-Economic and Educational Survey (CASTE Census), Ms Pallavi declined to comment, citing the unavailability of the report.

“The findings have not been made public yet, and I don’t know what it is. According to the 2011 census, the nomad population is about 1.1 million. However, community leaders claim that this number is much higher. We will evaluate and take further official data,” she said.
Ms Palawi mentioned that she visited the Budga Jangam Nomadic community near Kusnoor Road in Kalaburagi, saying she encountered a serious complaint against the local fair price store owners charging Rs 100 per household to pay free rice under the Anna Bhagya plan.
“Inhumane people are exploiting impoverished families by charging rice for free distribution. This incident reflects the horrible situation in which these communities are located,” she said. “I directed the officials to file lawsuits against the owners of the store and to submit reports of action.”
