Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)’s leg spinner Adam Zampa was excluded from IPL 2025 due to injury. Now, for Zampa’s replacement SRH owner Kavya Maran has picked a 21-year-old player who was earlier part of Royal Challenger Bangalore.

The franchise signed a replacement for promising Karnataka batsman Smaran Ravichandran. The announcement was posted on social media on Monday, April 14. The post simply puts Zampa was injured without providing more details about the nature of the injury. Ravicandran is primarily a top-down batsman who can hit the ball at different speeds and has an elegant style, although he can also play a little bit.

“Smaran Ravichandran has seven first-class matches, 10 A-list and 6 T20s and has more than 1100 runs in these matches. The left-handed batsman plays for Karnataka in domestic cricket matches, joining SRH for INR 3 million,” the IPL said in a statement.

Who is Smaran Ravichandran?

Smaran Ravicandran was not sold in IPL 2025 Mega Auction, and his subsequent performance proved many franchises. He won the century of competition in the final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Karnataka and then won hundreds of years in the Ranji Trophy. These achievements were after he won 302 runs in the Malaysian trophy, with an average of 43.14 and a strike rate of 145.19, while playing for the Gurbaga Mystics.


The 21-year-old, who reportedly was from Karnataka, impressed the coach with the Royal Challenger Bengaluru (RCB) in the preseason Nets. His immediate playing time on the SRH team can be challenging due to their strong batting lineup, but he could be a star if given the chance.

Smaran played seven first-class games, scoring more than 500 times averaged 64.50 of them, including the Double Century against Punjab. In List A match, he played 10 games and accumulated 433 games, an average of 72.16, for two centuries. In the T20S, Smaran scored 170 runs in six games with a strike rate of 170.

Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad has won only two of six games this season. They are currently ranked ninth on the dot table with a net run rate (NRR) of -1.245. Their highest team total this season is 286, while their lowest score is 120. this Pat Cummins-led SRH will balance on April 17 with Hardik Pandya-led MI.
