Tahawwur Rana case: MHA appoints Narender Mann as Special Attorney for 3 years

The center has appointed a special prosecutor to trial the case related to the Mumbai terrorist attack, accused of extradition to the United States and is expected to arrive in India on Thursday (April 10, 2025).

In a late-night notice, the Union’s Ministry of Interior said that Narender Mann will be the Special Attorney for trial and other matters with the National Bureau of Investigation (NIA) case RC-04/2009/NIA/DLI (Mumbai Attack).

“In exercise of the powers expressed by sub-section (1) of section 15 of the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008 (34 of 2008), read with sub-section (8) of section 18 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS), the central government hereby appointments Narender Mann, advocate as special public prosecutor for conducting trial and other matters related to NIA case RC-04/2009/NIA/DLI on behalf of the National Bureau of Investigation in Delhi and the Court of Appeal to the Special Court of the NIA and the Court of Appeal, three years from the date of notice, or until an earlier trial of the case, which is three years,”

Rana, 64, is a Pakistan-born Canadian nation and one of the main conspirators in the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack. American citizen David Coleman Headley is also a U.S. citizen.

According to officials, a multi-agency team has gone to the United States to bring him to India.
