Caste census report recommends 51% quota in Karnataka

Bangalore: The caste census report submitted to the Karnataka Cabinet recommends increasing bookings for lagging communities from the existing 32% to 51%.

According to government sources, the socio-economic and educational survey, in short, also stressed that BC’s population is 70%.

The report also recommends that educational institutions in the state should provide 51% retention to BCS.

Sources said it took Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand as examples, which offered 69% and 77% of bookings, respectively.

According to the survey report, the population of backward communities in Class 1A is 34,96,638, 1B-73,92,313, 2A-2A-77,78,209, 2B-75,25,880, 3A—- 72,99,577, and the population of backward communities in Class 3B is 1,154,37,1137,1137,1137,1137,1137,113, and claims.

Thus, the total population of other backward castes is 4,16,30,153.
Sources quoted the report claiming that the pre-determined caste and pre-determined tribal populations are 1,09,29347 and 42,81,289, respectively. The sample survey included a population of 5,98,14,942.

The investigation was originally commissioned by H Kantharaj in 2015 and was later completed by K Jayaprakash Hegde, chairman of the Karnataka State Backward Class Committee, and submitted the report to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in February 2024.
