Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said Pope Francis left a legacy of sympathy, inclusion and a profound commitment to social justice.
Vijayan said in his condolences on Monday (April 21, 2025) that Pope Francis’ pope is characterized by important propaganda with marginalized communities, interfaith dialogue and key stances on global capitalism.
Pope Francis is an advocate of the poor and marginalization. He said he often stressed the mission of the church to “discard” people for society, including homeless and poor.
The pope’s experience in Buenos Aires shapes his understanding of poverty, which leads him to declare that “indifferent globalization” must resist with positive sympathy for those in need. Pope Francis’ commitment to LGBTQ+ rights has evolved in his search for fostering a more inclusive church. He famously said, “Everyone has dignity”, regardless of their sexual orientation. He added that this message resonated with many people who were alienated by traditional church teachings.
Pope Francis also advocates Palestinian rights and often expresses his plight. He stressed the suffering of the people there and advocated peace and mutual understanding in the region. Mr Vijayan said his faith efforts, including historic meetings with religious leaders, reinforced his belief that dialogue is crucial to peace.
Pope Francis put religious dialogue first as a means of promoting peace in his entire pope. He believes that cooperation among different beliefs is crucial to resolving global conflicts and promoting social harmony. His meetings with leaders of Islam, Judaism and other faiths illustrate his commitment to building bridges between communities. He added that his visits to the UAE and Iraq and the statements related to them were historic.
He often calls for collective efforts to address global issues such as poverty, environmental degradation and climate change, highlighting that these concerns go beyond religious boundaries. He said he famously said: “Religious dialogue is a necessary condition for peace.”
Pope Francis is unwavering in criticism of capitalism, which he believes is a system that marginalizes inequality and marginal poor. He described the economies of exclusion as “killing” and urged a reassessment of economic priorities to prioritizing human dignity over profits. He added that his encyclopedia often addresses the need for structural changes in the financial system to create a more equitable society.
Pope Francis’ legacy is one of the deep empathy and actions to build a more just world. Mr Vijaya said his advocacy for different communities, his commitment to interfaith dialogue and criticism of capitalism will continue to inspire future generations to pursue peace and social justice.
