The TGSRTC Retired Officials Welfare Association unanimously elected its new office commitment at its annual meeting on Sunday. Former Executive Director (Engineering) MV Nagavender Rao was re-elected as president for the fifth consecutive time.
Kumuraiah was elected as vice president with him, P. Venkat Reddy serves as joint secretary for Secretary-General G. Sadasiva Rao and TV Ranga Rao serves as treasurer.
At the annual shareholders’ meeting, Mr. Nagavender Rao handed over an agent to Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and TGSRTC Managing Director VC Sajjanar outlining some of the long-standing retiring dissatisfactions. Among the key questions raised are delays in holiday shipping fees, delays in paying interest amounts with fixed deposits from the Cooperative Credit Association (CCS), and continuous collection of 50% of fares from retired officials to travel by super luxury bus.
The association also requires full reimbursement of medical expenses for retirees and their spouses, the same benefits provided by government employees. Currently, there is only a repayment of up to Rs 2 lakh, forcing retirees to bear additional medical expenses from their pockets. Unlike government employees, many are struggling to cope with the rise in elderly care costs due to the lack of a pension system for TGSRTC retirees.
Minister Prabhakar assured the party in response to dissatisfaction that all issues will be subject to empathy checks to alleviate relief from retired officials.
