Lucknow Super Giants’ biggest boost to 156.7 km star Mayank Yadav

The young pacemaker made his debut in three T20Is in domestically against Bangladesh last year, missing out on the entire domestic season and recovered at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bangalore.
The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) got a significant boost as they added fast bowler Mayank Yadav to their roster. The 22-year-old pacemaker is expected to prepare for LSG’s upcoming match against Rajasthan Royals on Saturday. LSG announced Mayank’s return through a special video on its social media platform with the title “Mayank Yadav is back.” Mayack was eliminated with a back injury and is on the verge of returning earlier this season, due to a toe injury that was fixed to the bed, causing the infection to further delay his comeback.

LSG head coach Justin Langer expressed optimism about Mayank’s recovery, saying he was happy with the progress made by the fast bowler. “Mayank is starting and running, which is really great for Indian cricket and IPL. I saw some videos of him bowling in the NCA yesterday. His bowling is about 90 to 95 percent.”

Mayank had a significant impact on the IPL last season with his outstanding pace and ability to go to the wicket, always reaching a speed of 150 km/h. Despite playing only four games for LSG last season, he is one of five players retained by the team at the big auction.
His return will provide a significant boost to LSG, a bowling roster that IPL has been struggling since the beginning of 2025.
The damage crisis for LSG even began before the season opener, with major players like Mohsin Khan, Mayank, Avesh Khan and Akash Deep not available. To strengthen the attack, the franchise brought the experienced Shardul Thakur, a move that proved successful. After that, Avesh and Akash Deep returned to the team, playing five and three games respectively.
Despite the challenges of limited bowling resources, LSG secured fifth place in the ranking with four wins in seven games. Their next match will be against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Saturday.
