Police said Saturday the criminal case of alleged negligence was registered against Dr. Sushrut Ghaisas for the death of a pregnant woman who was “denied admission” for the failure to pay the advance payment. Dr. Ghaisas, who works as a consulting gynecologist and is attached to the hospital, resigns after the death of Tanisha Bhise, wife of Sushant Bhise, private secretary of BJP lawmaker Amit Gorkhe.
She was allegedly denied admission at Mangkar Hospital because her relatives were unable to pay a deposit of Rs 1 million. Bhise died two days later after giving birth to twins at another hospital. An official said the First Information Report (FIR) registered Dr. Ghaisas under Article 106(1)(1)(death) of the BNS.
Bhise’s family accused Dr Ghaisas of insisting on a deposit of Rs 1 million before admission. A team of doctors at Sassoon General Hospital submitted reports to police earlier this week on the issue.
