Traditional tribal art forms live in a special seminar in Thuamul Rampur

Bhawanipatna: Students at the Eklavya Model Residential School in Thuamul Rampur, located in the heart of the tribal heart of the Kalahandi district of Odisha, immersed in the rich tapestry of Sura Art, one of the oldest tribal art forms in the state.

The initiative aims to foster creativity and maintain traditional cultural heritage, organized by the Sijimali Bauxite project team of India’s leading aluminum producer Vedanta Group. The event was led by faculty and staff of the Kalahandi School of Arts and Studies, and hosted a hands-on workshop on the arts of Saura.

More than 120 students attended the conference to explore the complex symbols, historical roots and techniques of this indigenous art form. Through their vivid creations inspired by folklore and everyday tribal life, students not only demonstrate artistic talent, but also a deepening connection with cultural identity.

Satya Prakash Satya, principal of the school, said: “The Sora Arts Seminar not only enriched their artistic abilities, but also took pride in the tribal heritage of Odisha. Such a meaningful event really strengthens the cultural roots of our students.”

Vedanta’s chief operating officer of bauxite, Nitin Tiwari, reiterated the company’s commitment to cultural conservation. “Our community development program is deeply rooted in maintaining the rich heritage of the areas we serve. Such activities inspire younger generations to embrace their roots while exploring their creative potential,” he said.

Vedanta Aluminum has been actively working with local communities in areas such as education, healthcare, sustainable livelihoods, sports and cultural promotion. The Saura Arts Program marks another step towards inclusive and culturally enriched community development.
