A team from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) arrived in the Malda area of West Bengal on Friday (18 April 2025) to meet with people who were sheltered in refugee camps after fleeing violent attacks in the Mershidabad district.
The NHRC protested against the recent violence in Muhidabad, which erupted during the WAQF (Amendment) Act protests.

The committee said Tuesday that given the severity of the situation, it has decided to send a team to conduct a live investigation into the incident.
The NHRC Action took action after receiving formal complaints about violence and so-called human rights violations in affected areas.
