Union Minister Prahlad Joshi visits Greenko’s renewable energy project

Anantapur: Union Minister Prahlad Joshi visited Greenko’s integrated renewable energy storage project on Friday in Pinnapuram and appreciated its rapid development.
The groundbreaking world’s first and largest GW-scale renewable energy project includes 4,000 MW of solar, 1,000 MW of wind and 1,680 MW of pump hydropower generation. With a storage capacity of 10,080 MWh per day in a single cycle, the carbon-free energy generated by the project will support industries such as green steel, green aluminum and green hydrogen.
Prahlad Joshi conducted an air survey tour of the facility and visited various components of a large integrated renewable energy project. Later, he said: “In our country, it is a sense of pride to witness the first and largest of the world’s first and largest projects. This is a shining example of India under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I commend the AP government for its progressive policies under Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for making this challenge possible.”
The union minister stressed that the project will help avoid 3.3 million tons of batch emissions per year. Designed for the generation, storage and on-demand supply of clean energy, the project will play a key role in enhancing India’s energy security and accelerating its transition to greener sources.
Greenco CEO & MD Anil Chalamalasetty said the project will drive economic growth in the region, promote the development of auxiliary industries and create jobs. He stressed that Greenko is leading the energy transition with its innovative storage solutions, developing several pumped hydropower projects across India to build a cloud storage platform with capacity of over 100 gwh.
The Pinnapuram project is under development with a total investment of $4.2 billion – pumping storage components $1.2 billion, and solar and wind power infrastructure $3 billion. This is an important milestone in India’s transition to sustainable energy, effectively addressing the challenges of intermittent renewable energy.
Greenko is one of the world’s leading energy transition and decarbonization companies with nearly 12 GW of operational capacity between wind, solar, hydro and pumped storage. Among the 15 states in India, another 20 GW are under construction. By 2030, Greenco aims to expand its portfolio to 50 gw.
Over the past decade, Greenco’s founders have raised more than $10 billion in members, including more than $3 billion in equity and more than $5 billion in global green bonds.
