Azim Premji Foundation announces scholarships for up to 250,000 girls

The Azim Premji Foundation announced the Azim Premji scholarship on Thursday, which is a maximum of 2.5 million female students in public schools in 18 states to receive higher education.

Passed the 10th and 12th exams each year in public schools and received scholarships from Real Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). These well-intentioned HEIs will include all government HEIs and selective private HEIs. As long as the girl successfully continues to participate in the program, the girl’s university/university course will continue to have a scholarship of Rs 30,000.

“The candidates do not have other criteria or qualifications. We do not conduct any exams or check the financial background of students,” said Anurag Behar, CEO of the Azim Premji Foundation.

He said the reason for this type of screening is that more than 90% of government primary school students come from vulnerable backgrounds. The scholarship is designed to relieve some of the financial burden on some female students, rather than focusing on too many checklists or screening processes.

He also pointed out that while primary school girls are almost the same as boys’ admissions, the number of admissions to higher education shows that girls have a relatively low percentage. “Tutorial fees are usually discounted or offered at discounted prices due to adverse financial backgrounds. However, additional fees such as commuting, clothing, books, etc. make them reluctant to receive higher education,” he explained.

The pilot test of the “Azim Premji Scholarship” was conducted in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Jharkhand in 2024-25, and over 25,000 girls were selected to participate in the scholarship. During the 2025-26 school year, the scholarship has officially started in 18 states, some of which include Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Karnataka, Telangana, Trilangana, Odisha, Odisha and Mizoram.

The application process for 2025-26 will begin in September 2025. Students can apply online. The foundation has completed a scholarship program of Rs 25 billion in three years and is likely to expand to cover the entire country in the coming years.
